Apr 7, 2025
We're thrilled to announce the open-source release of our first MCP Server — Powerdrill MCP Server. This server offers powerful tools for interacting with Powerdrill datasets, all securely authenticated with your Powerdrill User ID and Project API Key.
What is MCP?
Model Context Protocol (MCP), first introduced by Anthropic in 2024, is a framework designed to simplify how data and context are managed across various machine learning models. It provides a consistent method for models to share and access key information, improving performance in environments with multiple models. By keeping the context organized, MCP makes it easier for models to communicate and collaborate seamlessly, which helps simplify the integration and scaling of machine learning systems. It's particularly useful for complex applications that rely on multiple models working together, allowing them to process and respond to data more efficiently.
What is MCP server?
The MCP Server is a key component built around MCP, designed to support the seamless integration and management of machine learning models. It acts as a central hub, enabling models to securely access and share context and data, helping them work together smoothly in multi-model environments.
Powerdrill MCP Server is one such implementation, built specifically for working with Powerdrill datasets. With strong security features like user authentication and project-specific API keys, Powerdrill MCP Server ensures data is handled safely while supporting flexible and scalable machine learning deployments.
What does Powerdrill MCP Server can do for you?
It's super easy to set up:

After the setup, you can enjoy the following:
Securely authenticate with Powerdrill using your User ID and Project API Key
Instantly browse all available datasets in your Powerdrill account
Access detailed insights about any dataset with ease
Create and run jobs by simply asking natural language questions
Seamlessly integrate with Claude Desktop and other MCP-compatible clients
